Going back to seeing one’s homes as a micro cosmos where one can perform more functions and over an extended span of the day, is a condition that has strongly manifested itself in the recent period of forced lockdown, all over the world. Work from home, smart working, smart teaching / learning and smart meetings are activities that many of us have learned to appreciate by necessity, rediscovering them as possible ways in the near future of our daily lives. Therefore, new themes are proposed for design research, with the aim of devising new objects / systems that can allow, if necessary, the creation of micro zones within other rooms, where activities of the type described above can be carried out with relative confidentiality and focus. Since it assumes its prevalent use in homes and offices of all sizes, and therefore also small metropolitan apartments or small rooms, the flexibility factor is fundamental, since the solutions must be able to be set up in an easy and fast way, “on command” and reversible. ; they could therefore adopt and integrate automated and / or computerized systems (eg new generation screens, at various levels of acoustic-visual insulation, etc.). The use of eco-friendly materials, and / or circular and sustainable processes in the realization or in their phases of use and life, must be foreseen and pursued in the very conception of the projects. Furthermore, there may be additions of secondary functions, but of useful support for the well-being of the environment that welcomes them.
